{"id":4190,"date":"2014-11-14T22:00:31","date_gmt":"2014-11-14T16:15:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dorjegurung.com\/blog\/?p=4190"},"modified":"2021-08-16T10:42:37","modified_gmt":"2021-08-16T04:57:37","slug":"my-very-first-visit-to-thangpalkot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dorjegurung.com\/blog\/2014\/11\/my-very-first-visit-to-thangpalkot\/","title":{"rendered":"My Very First Visit to Thangpalkot"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The summer of 2012, really disappointed with <a title=\"Qatar\u2026From Afar: Irony of Ironies\" href=\"https:\/\/dorjegurung.com\/blog\/2013\/09\/qatar-from-afar-irony-of-ironies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">my teaching experience<\/a> at Qatar Academy and in line with what I had always planned of doing, I had been contemplating returning home for good to <a title=\"About Me\" href=\"https:\/\/dorjegurung.com\/blog\/about-me\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">work with children from low socio-economic backgrounds<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It would have been four years at the end of 2013 academic year since my good friends&#8211;the Prices&#8211;and I had talked about my return home, sitting in a small lodge in Mustang drinking Mustang &#8220;Coffee&#8221;. We had decided then that I should give myself only five more years before I returned because, without such a deadline, we figured, I would most likely continue with my international teaching career. And so, returning even before the five years was up seemed just as&nbsp;good a time as any.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to my disappointment with my teaching experience in Qatar, there were other pull factors at work too, such as the new addition to our family: my little nephew!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So that summer, I visited about ten government and community school in and around Pokhara, including Bal Jyoti Primary School and Vindhya Basini Secondary School, the two government <a title=\"Education in Nepal: How I Got In and Out\" href=\"https:\/\/dorjegurung.com\/blog\/2013\/03\/education-in-nepal-how-i-in-and-got-out-of-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">schools I had attended<\/a> before moving to St. Xavier&#8217;s Godavari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from that, I also accompanied my good buddy <a title=\"Members | COMMITTED\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cminepal.org\/members.php#firstPage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jayjeev<\/a>, <a title=\"Community Members Interested\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cminepal.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">COMMITTED<\/a>&#8216;s Executive Director, on a trip to Thangpalkot.
