With some dramatic demonstrations or experiments, I would test them out beforehand for a number of reasons, some obvious. Firstly, I had to make sure that it works the way it should. Secondly, to find out if any additional precautions should be taken in addition to the usual etc.
When I would do those “test” runs, often, colleagues volunteered to work with me! And of course, some times, they got more than bargained for, which could be a number of blog posts on its own!
In preparation for the Cracking Crackers lesson with my IB Diploma Year 2 students in Baku, Azerbaijan in the spring of 2010, my buddy Andy and I tested out the crackers. Here’s the result.
I am a one-time international secondary school Science/Chemistry teacher with over 15 years of teaching experience in 10 different countries spanning 5 continents. Though born a Tibetan-Buddhist in a Hindu country, I attended a Jesuit school in Nepal and traveled to four other countries for further education. Currently I spend my time doing education-related social work.
When I am not doing education-related work, I am likely to be found playing Ultimate Frisbee or the Didjeridoo, or dancing or taking photographs or hiking and trekking in the mountains or lounging on a beach!
Don't leave me hanging...say something....
