Me and my mo at the beginning of this month!

Following my return to Nepal on May 13, 2013 I tried to give continuity to some of the activities I had engaged in abroad both as a student and as an international teacher around the world, to activities such as ultimate frisbee and Movember.

Ultimate frisbee, I have had some luck with. I have played it and continue to play with different groups here in Kathmandu. Movember…not at all!

In October 2013, when I sent out a Facebook message about it to my Xaverian classmates, both in Nepal and abroad, I got no response.

So I decided me and my mo would be growing solo every Movember! 🙂

Since 2014, at or near the beginning of November, I have shaved my mo and let it grow until the end of the month, and then donated some money to a charity, as is customary.

In 2014, I donated to the Nepal UWC scholarship fund, while in 2015, I donated to Nepal’s first Collaborative School, initiated and run by my friend Sakar Pudasaini and mate Pete Pattisson. This is Jana Uddhar, the same school where I have been volunteering at, working with their science teachers.

I wasn’t able to write and publish this blog post in the beginning of the month as I was travelling. Regardless, I shaved and prepared myself for it a couple of days before November came around (see image at the top). I haven’t decided where my donation will go this time.

Are you doing Movember? Interested in sharing your story or photo? Please feel free to do so below!

I’ll be updating this post with photos showing how my growing solo effort is progressing! 🙂

November 14 Update

Being ethnic Tibetan, facial hair — and hair anywhere really, except maybe on the head — is NOT our specialty! Two weeks of letting my mo grow has resulted in this:

You don’t see much of a side burn because, like most ethnic Tibetans, I am unable to get much there!

November 30 Update

Here’s the final look.

Additionally, those I was working with the last several days, all had they mos to show and I thought what better way to show solidarity with my growing solo efforts, everything else Movember stands for and capture a memory of those times than to have portraits of us all showing our mos…and more!

mo-better-mos
So that’s Sushil, Josh, myself, Christian and our trusted lighter! While we carried our mo’s with flair, the lighter flare carried us through intense days and nights! 🙂 🙂

Though Movember comes to an end, I haven’t decided where my donation (of Rs. 5000, approx. US$50) will go! When I do, I’ll be sure to update this post with the details.

Did you participate in Movember? If so, what does your mo look like? Feel free to share!
