How a journalist completely missed the central point of -- AND misrepresented what I shared at -- a presentation about volunteering that I made earlier this month.
Earlier this month, the evening of April 5 to be precise, I gave a presentation at Wisdom Wednesdays series of talks at Paddy Foley's organized by NGN. The series, and therefore the talk, is about ETHICAL voluntourism. I volunteered to give the presentation as a contribution towards the organizer's efforts to #StopOrphanTrips to Nepal.
I had a number of reasons for wanting to go abroad for studies. One had been to learn about other people and places. Another had been to escape Nepal.
My attempt at inspiring students from Dolpa, mostly ethnic Tibetans, to pursue their dreams to break out of the limitations and constraints imposed on them by Nepalese culture and society.
The plight of marginalized Nepalese, notably, Dalits, women, Tharus and Tamangs, how education can uplift them, what COMMITTED is doing to that end and why I am involved in all that.
