Another chance meeting…another convert to COMMITTED‘s cause!

I was on the last leg of my return trip to Nepal from the US, flying from Delhi to Kathmandu, on June 8, 2014. Marjolein was flying to Kathmandu to visit her brother and to do a bit of trekking. With nothing but time on our hands, we whiled it away…talking…about a number of things, one of them being COMMITTED’s work.

A later meeting for coffee in Thamel sealed the deal: she would raise funds for our programs!

Back in Holland now, that’s exactly what Marjolein will be doing in just a little over a month. Here are the details:

WHAT? Second-hand clothes market (a garage sale).

WHERE? First floor of Talud 9 on Het Wed, Utrecht.

WHEN? 12:00 pm to 6 pm (and NOT 3:30 pm to 9:30 pm as previously advertised), October 4 and 5. (Appologies for the misinformation; I blame Facebook for being too intelligent for its own good–it converted the Dutch time to Nepal time when I was viewing the page, which is what I put down here!)

Here’s a reproduction of the details (in Dutch) that Marjolein produced on the Facebook Event Page:

And the English translation:

Last summer, I visited Nepal. On the plane to Kathmandu, I found myself sitting next to someone from Nepal: Dorje Gurung. He runs an organization with a friend implementing education-related projects. They try to enthuse families and children about education because this is important for the development of the country. His drive inspired me greatly and I carry a warm heart for his organization and Dorje.

I am very impressed with Nepal and would like to contribute to its development. Together with Christine Verspui I have created an event: a clothes market the weekend of 4 and 5 October. On sale will be carefully selected second-hand, beautiful, wearable items. It all happens on the first floor of Talud 9 on Het Wed in Utrecht. The funds we generate from the sale of the items will go to COMMITTED, the not-for-profit organization run by Dorje.

How you can help

Go to the Facebook Event Page, join the event, if you are in Holland, show up with friends and relatives and shop! Additionally, invite friends who live close by!

If you don’t live there, go to the Facebook Event page anyway and invite friends who do live nearby and encourage them to go and shop!

COMMITTED and I look forward to continued support from, and collaboration with, Marjolein and Christine in our efforts to educate Nepalese children!

November 7, 2014 Update

Marjolein and Christine were able to raise 1100 Euros from the garage sale, which when received at at COMMITTED amounted to Nepalese Rupees 132,636.43.

I would like to thank Marjolein and Christine on behalf of COMMITTED family for their time and effort. They hope to run another sale in the spring! How great is that?!

Be sure to check this page for updates on how those funds are being used etc.
